Heroes' Square-Monument to Maygar Chieftans Magyar Chieftans Basilica of St. Stephen
We're back in Budapest to finish our time in Hungary. We arrived on monday and tonight we leave on the 7pm train to Vienna, where we plan on spending a few days before going back to Paris. Yesterday we visited St. Stephan's Basilica, the Parliament building and also had some coffee and pastry at the old school Hotel Astoria. The Basilica was amazing, and with a little rare sunlight, the windows glowed and the gold leaf sparkled. We saw the mummified hand of St. Stephan, it gave us the thumbs up as we walked by. Parliament was one of the most ornate buildings we've seen on the trip. Its mainly neogothic with other styles, and was the winning entry in a design competition in 1896. They constantly must apply new gold leaf to everything, so we're glad we contributed a few Fornits to the effort. We walked a mile through town back to our hotel off city park, along their classic boulevard. we are staying right across the street from the Heroes Square, where statues of Maygar chieftains and statesmen keep watch. They are really impressive at night, strangely lifelike at night. They look as if they could come down and reclaim the city. Today we plan on touring the opera house and soaking in the baths in city park. One thing you notice about Budapest is there decoration and ornate sculptures on everything, its hard not to keep looking up. Ciao, Mark and Laurie
